Although I think I have quite a large friends list on Livejournal, one of the things I do very rarely is go out seeking new friends. Most of my friends are Sluggites (i.e. people who read the online comic Sluggy Freelance), and the rest are people I've picked up from various furry art, fursuiting or gaming communities. Most of them are people who friended me who I friended back. Very rarely will I friend someone who hasn't introduced themselves to me - if this happens it's usually someone that's a member of at least one of my regular communities who has proven themselves to be interesting, nice, and able to type in proper English (typos permitted).

There are people on my friends list who I haven't friended back - some of them I might not have noticed yet (sorry!), some of them I have deemed to be unsuitable for my friends page for whatever reason (long geeky entries about programming aren't likely to pique my interest, nor are angsty teenage rants nor leet-speak), some of them just haven't posted any entries at all! Most of these people, I presume, found me because we share a common community or interest.

So how is it I've picked up a random friend who has apparently nothing in common with me? I understand that there are people out there who will add every user they come across, but how did they find me? I don't exactly have a common name. I know it doesn't matter, but it bothers me having a friend on my profile who is obviously a spammer or sorts, writing inane posts and judging by the comments on these has added a vast number of people to their friends list without reason - people who are equally as confused as I am?
