Cornish fun

This weekend was spent camping in Cornwall in honor of the birthday of someone called Rachel who I've met only a couple of times but is a lovely person. The camping trip was quite large, consisting of people from Bristol, Gloucerster, Southampton, Exeter and some from the Midlands I think - 14 in total. It's a fair old drive down, especially as we were staying near Penzance right on the furthest tip of Cornwall - 2 1/2 miles from Landsend. I took the Friday off work and [info]jam_warrior had the half-day, but we still didn't get to the campsite until 8.00pm.

Weekend can be summed up thusly - fun but damp. Friday night rained, and the rest of the weekend drifted between drizzly and misty. The sun barely showed at all, apart from to bake us alive in our non-AC car on the way down. Still, even in the damp it's a lovely place - cows and the sea and cliffs and pasties and cream teas. Yum! Pasty count was I think two for Jam and one for me, but I suspect Jam may have snuck a few more sneaky pasties behind my back. :)

We were quite active all weekend, enjoying Paradise Park - a breeding and conservation centre for endangered birds (as well as the usual animal attractions these places offer, such as farm corner and a snake and otters - adorable bundles of gorgeousness with tiny tiny sharp white teeth), the Seal Sanctuary, Mousehole (a village with tiny winding roads, hence the name), Penzance, Landsend and very briefly Goonhilly - the location of SETI. To be honest we only went to Goonhilly for a cream tea on the way home. :)

I wish we could have spent longer there - it was an awefully long way to drive for just two nights. Maybe next time I'll try and book a week off work and do a proper camping trip with long walks and bird-spotting and camp fires and instant pasta meals. Camping is great, even when it rains (we currently have a tent drying in our front room, lacking any actual land to set it up on!).
